Last year, the choir I sing with here in Poland, Musica Sacra, recorded an album of all-new settings of the “Pie Jesu” text. The pieces are all quite different in tone and style, and it was an incredible experience to both compose and sing for the project. I’ve recently uploaded the recording to my SoundCloud page:
Recently, I was fortunate enough to have a piece of mine for fixed media included in an “Etno-Electro” concert here in Warsaw.
The concert focused on pieces that integrate electronics with ethnic and/or folk music. Ethnic/folk music ranged from traditional Polish singing to gamelan ensemble. My piece combined a field recording I did of church bells and birds in Berlin with recordings from Sharon Williams’ “Public Drum Project”.
More information is located here (unfortunately only in Polish) if you are interested in learning more about the concept.
I’m very much looking forward to the conclusion of this year’s Gaude Mater Festival, which will happen this Sunday, May 8th, at Katedra św. Michała Archanioła i św. Floriana Męczennika. Dr. Łukaszewski’s choir, Musica Sacra, will perform a wonderful program of new sacred music, with many premieres, including one of my own. These are all part of the Pie Jesu Project, which has commissioned a number of choral pieces by various composers, all using the same traditional Latin text. If you are in the area, (get thee to an aeroplane, American friends!), I hope you can make the performance.
Bonus: Here’s a lovely photo from Dr. Łukaszewski’s studio concert on April 29th. Audio and video to come soon!
